Have you ever heard of the Child Life Program at Children’s Hospital?
The child life program plays an essential role in the care of patients and their families:
  • They prepare the family for planned surgeries
  • Educate and demonstrate common hospital procedures
  • Develop lasting relationships with patients and their families that are hospitalized for lengthy and repeated admissions
  • Deal with death and dying for the entire family.
  • Provide a safe injury free place for children to play

These are just a few of the things that a child life specialist does, but I could not have survived my time as a PICU nurse (pediatric ICU) without them. They rescued families in crisis, and helped the families to create positive lasting memories of the child they had lost. They took on the heart breaking task of preparing siblings to say goodbye, and helped prepare keepsakes; from sibling memory bags, locks of hair, hand prints, footprints, anything the family desired.
A huge thank you to The Melting Pot for hosting another great event to benefit the children in Alabama.  Become their fan on Facebook here for promotions and upcoming events.
