Shaking Baby Syndrome: A Stroll toward Prevention

I remember bringing my first born home. My husband and I were in awe of those little fingers and toes and felt like she was the most perfect thing in the world. When you are a new mom, it can be overwhelming. On one hand, this perfect little human you co-created gives you a new meaning, a renewed sense of life. On the other hand, it is very exhausting especially when you are trying to care for baby, care for your sore body, and handle the everyday stresses of life. I know, I have been there.
Sometimes it seems like too much.
One of the silent abuses on infants is shaken baby syndrome. It happens everyday and it knows no particular demographic. Most new parents know you never, never, never shake a baby. But sometimes it happens.
UAB will host the Shaken Baby Prevention 4K Stroll on Saturday, April 10 at the UAB Campus Green.
This is a wonderful new event that is open to the entire family, but with an emphasis on the stroller aged babies as our featured participants.
The event is being hosted to raise awareness of child abuse in our region and to raise money for prevention efforts and other resources. We’re looking to fill the UAB Campus Green with mommies and babies and families that support this very worthwhile cause.
Will you help us get the word out to Birmingham Parents by spreading the word?
And never, never, never shake a baby.
Join us April 10th so we can help prevent any future regrets.
