Our birthday party planning starts the day after the current birthday is being celebrated. In our household, my daughters take the entire “it’s my special day” very seriously.  I don’t blame them, kids love birthday parties especially their own. 

When I was growing up in the 70s, the birthday party consisted of a few friends over with cake and running around the house.  On the most special of birthday occasion, we even went to the local fast food chain.   Parties with ponies, balloons, and clowns were just not an option for most because they were expensive and rare to find.

Times have changed. Birthday parties seem to be more affordable, especially when you consider the opportunity costs related to birthday parties including clean up pre and post party, the supplies, the entertainment, and the overall stress of inviting a lot of folks into your home can bring to even the most organized mom.
