Exercise gadgets and bouncing around…

Did you check out Hoda on the Today Show yesteray morning? When I am not watching Talk of Alabama ( gotta love the local stories), I TiVo the Hoda and Kathie Lee segments. This morning, I caught the exercise portion of the show. Featured were bouncey shoes. Here is the LINK.
I have tried a lot of different exercises and programs. And I am always willing to attempt them. The bouncey shoes were no exception so I took the Bouncey Shoe Challenge.
These shoes are fun but if you have terrible coordination or balance, it might take a few minutes to adjust to your heightened view. They remind me of inline skates without the wheels, just the bounce. I took my shoes down the block for a test run. It was a good warm-up and I could feel the pull in my calf muscles. I did it a second time because while I was warmed up, I was not in the “zone” of exercise that I feel with Rachel Hunt. Once I returned back from that second trip, I was still lacking that “zone” feeling.
So I decided to incorporate the techniques and exercises that Rachel has taught me. Once I got going, I did get in the zone. And mentally, I could hear her and my fellow bootcampers encouraging me.
The shoes costs around $230-260 a pair. While they are a fun new experience, they are like the treadmill, ellipical machine and DVD’s that you purchase. In other words, they don’t work unless you work them! See, the Jumpy shoes got me to the end of the block but I really feel if Rachel were with me, I would have gotten to the end of the block, around the corner, through the woods and to Grandma’s house with them on. That is the difference between buying equipment and having someone there to motivate you.
So, the Bouncey shoes will come down from the closet some more, especially if I want to entertain my neighbors and the kids who already are a little weary of “Ms. Nanci” with the clunk, clunk, clunk, as I make my way down the street. But I bet I burn 10 times more calories with one session from a trainer than I do with two weeks of thinking about wearing them and one journey down the block.
